Hong Kong Food Choices

Makan places : This really depends on where you are :

If you are in the vicinity of Times Square and Sogo, you can have good claypot rice (my photo shows the yam rice with added liver sausage (Yummy) ) or you can even have "bak kut" etc etc... at Tang Lung Street - it's hard to miss the shop because there will always be lots of people there, even eating at tables on the road side.

Still around Times Square, try Maks noodles - eat the beef tendon noodle (Jardine's bazaar) or Ho Hung Kee Wantan mee (I prefer this one - on East Sharp Street) - unfortunately I don't have any photos.

Still in the same area, on Lock hart Road (block behind Sogo) is Yee Shun Milk Company - for great steamed egg for dessert or Steamed milk. There is another branch located at Henessy Road (near SOGO - about two blocks down from SOGO)

At the start of Tin Lok lane (nearer the end where it joins Hennessy Road (walking distance from Sogo, Causeway Bay) you can find good Roast goose. It is the only shop that sells roast goose at the begining of Tin Lok Lane (I can't remember the name)

Around the Central Region, good (I think this one has the best) wantan mee at Wong Chi Kei, located at the start of Wellington Street (nearer the Pedder Road end - accessible from Central MTR station - if you see Marks and Spencers you are heading in the right direction)

Opposite Wong Chi Kei is another roast goose place called Yung Kee which is famous for roast goose but relatively more expensive and some say that there are better places. Try the "Siew Ngo Lai Fun". What is really worth your visit there is the "peidan" which is really excellent and liver sausage "yun cheong" is also excellent - I usually buy some home.

In the vicinity also you can get good dim sum at Maxims restaurant - City Hall - which is accesible if you walk using the airbridge which connects IFC mall, Central area , Star ferry pier (City Hall is just one block away from the Airport Express Hong Kong terminal).

At IFC mall, there is Tasty Wantan Noodle on the 3rd floor directly above the airport express terminal - very good wantan mee and char leong (yu cha kuey wrapped with chee cheong fun) and porridge is wonderful!!! This is actually a branch because the actual outlet is located at Happy Valley Road.

These few places should be good to try Happy eating!!

Some notes on shopping you can check out the Esprit outlets at Tsim Sha Tsui (near Haiphong Road and Peking Road, Kowloon) , there are also brands outlets at the Tung Chong MTR station (you can go there because it is one stop off Disneyland stop)
